Community in a Community-less World
Presenter: Dr. David Ludwig,
Ph.D. - Professor at Lenoir-Rhyne, NC
Bible Study: Rev. Dr. Gerhard
Michael - retired FLGA District President
In the midst of the individualism of our society we face a
growing challenge both in our congregations and in our
neighborhoods. While we formally call these communities, we
realize that more and more there is a lack of genuine community.
This reality is foreign to our calling as church as we have been
called into the one body of Christ. It is a true void for the
people in our society as they also were created for community.
Our conference this year focuses on how we can address this
challenge as church and how the proper addressing of this
challenge serves as a contact point with our neighborhoods in
our sharing with them the community that they increasingly are
missing in their lives.
The conference utilizes the gifts and experiences of Dr. David
Ludwig and Rev. Gerhard Michael to guide us as we consider this
challenge. Each session addresses specific aspects of our life
together as community through pertinent Bible study (led by Rev.
Gerhard Michael), theoretical and practical application (Dr.
David Ludwig), and time for directed discussion.

Speaker Information |
Dr. David
Ludwig
Dr. David Ludwig combined a background in both theology and
psychology by getting an MDiv from Concordia Seminary in 1965
and a PhD from Washington University in 1966. His creative
blending of these two disciplines has spanned over 40 years as a
university professor, a licensed psychologist and Lutheran
(LCMS) minister. During this time Dr. Ludwig has written seven
books and numerous professional articles while speaking
internationally on the spiritual growth of relationships within
oneself, family, and church. Dr. Ludwig and his wife, Kathy,
have traveled extensively, giving presentations on relationships
with grants from Wheatridge, Thrivent, and various Synodical
organizations. Dave and Kathy have been married for 45 years and
have 3 married sons and 7 grandchildren.
Rev. Dr. Gerhard Michael, Jr.
Rev. Gerhard (Mike) Michael, Jr. is a retired pastor
(Merrill, WI and Warner Robins, GA), district president (FL-GA),
and missionary (Japan) who has seen the challenges and joys of
community at each of these levels of ministry. He received his
MDiv from Concordia Seminary in 1965 and his ThM from Harvard in
1971. He is passionate about connecting people to the living
breathing Word of God even as people are drawn into community
through it and sent out for community by it. Mike and his wife,
Joan, have been married for 45 years and have 6 children and 16
grandchildren.
