An important message from President Walton regarding this year's call
process for candidates and vicars:

While we are excited for the placement of the candidates and vicars to the Florida-Georgia District, we continue to pray for those who, because of insufficient opportunities, are yet to receive a call. In the words of President Kurt Schultz, The Southern District, and  chairman of the COP placement committee:

Many constantly changing factors have contributed to the increasing challenge of placing seminary candidates into pastoral ministry in The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod. This year these factors have once again extended the time it takes to place the large number of spring candidates from both of our seminaries. Many do not realize that placement is and always has been a year round task, with constant fluctuation of candidates and pending or potential calls. Candidates simply cannot be placed unless and until sufficient calls are issued by congregations of our Synod.

The 32 pastoral candidates not yet receiving calls this spring will remain on the minds and in the prayers of our district presidents and will be placed as soon as the Lord makes calls available through the decision of individual congregations, who have the right and responsibility to call their own pastor. The Council of Presidents does not and cannot manufacture calls for seminary candidates. The 35 district presidents of our Synod have been working and will continue to work with congregations seeking a pastor to help them determine whether an available seminary graduate might be considered for their congregation. We anticipate already a number of additional calls coming in the next few weeks as we await congregational voters meetings. That process will continue until all available candidates have been placed.

We are blessed as a church body to experience a high level of churchmanship from all those engaged in the process, namely, congregations, seminary placement officers, candidates, and the Council of Presidents. Although many things change, the commitment of the placement committee to the basic principles of the placement process does not change. We continue our work under the Word of God, prayerfully seeking the blessings of God the Father, the guidance of the Holy Spirit, and trusting the gracious Lordship of Jesus. Now is the time for us as God's beloved to focus our hearts, minds, words, and actions on the task given to us by the Lord of the harvest. May we all study, work and pray to this end.

 Greg
